The female kidnapper caught in the Okokomaiko area of Lagos State while trying to abduct a young child on her way to school on Monday, July 11, has made more damning revelations which is a wake up call for parents around the area and indeed, the whole state, to be more vigilant and keep watch over their kids more diligently.
It turned out that the woman who claimed to be 27-years-old, is part of a kidnap syndicate who come into the country from neighbouring Benin Republic, to kidnap children for sale.
The woman who was almost lynched, confessed that she is part of a 28-team of child abductors who come to Nigeria to abduct children and all of them are given targets by their bosses.
According to a witness, the lady who initially pretended to be a lunatic when she was first caught, suddenly became 'normal' when she saw that the mob was hell-bent on setting her ablaze and promptly confessed.
This is how the witness described the scene:
"Obviously scared for her life when she was realised the crowd was bent on setting her on fire, the kidnapper began to divulge information of her activities.
This is what she said: 'We were 27 women that came as a syndicate from Benin Republic. Each woman was given five phones to contact their buyers once the targets, mainly little children, were found.
We then discard the phone after transactions to avoid been traced. The abduction is for outright sale, not for a ransom.'"
Another resident who lamented the cases of missing children in the area in the past, with the police doing practically nothing to curb the menace, said:
“In the last one year, the trend of women kidnapping children has been on the increase. Fortunately, some of the women involved have been caught in recent times and they are always rescued from the mob and whisked away by the police. But the sad thing is that nothing is ever heard of the outcome again."
